the Webster Star

the Webster Star

The Webster Star is an online magazine dedicated to original content, interviews and previews of today and tomorrow’s best music. Discontinued in 2003, the magazine in print edition was distributed free at shows. Originally created by managers Ben Wu and Jeff Franklin, the magazine covered a lot of ground. Inside were photo’s taken at Webster Theater, articles about upcoming shows and interviews with artists such as The Used, Brand New, Jason Mraz Catch 22, Dashboard Confessional and many more. It’s legacy is strong but instead of letting the star burn out, the Webster Theater teamed up with The Truth About Music and Mercury Studios to revive it online. In the Webster Star Online you will find the things that made the magazine a must have item, exclusive interviews, Album and EP reviews, previews of upcoming shows and the best pictures from show’s you just attended! Check back often and feel free to email us with any comments or questions.

Ben Wu

Dedication:

The relaunch of the Webster Star is dedicated to the fond memory of Ben Wu.

Ben Wu, one of the original creators and publishers of The Webster Star, took the initiative to conceptualize, create, and distribute the magazine in its original format, print.

Although he will not be able to see what the online version of The Webster Star has become, we hope that he would be proud to see what we’ve done and thank him for his hard work and dedication to The Webster Theater.

Harris Decker

Editor in Chief, Writer, Photographer
Harris Decker

Attending a college focused in the music business, Harris Decker has gained invaluable experience working with and around artists. During his junior year at college, he decided to bring this insider’s access to the field of writing. Beginning in a college newspaper and quickly moving to The Truth About Music (his blog), writing is now a major field of interest for him. His only other passion, besides music, lies in the game of baseball, where he is an avid New York Mets fan and a walking encyclopedia of all things related to the sport. Harris’s jobs in the music industry have ranged from artist management to working for ASCAP and beyond. This wide range of knowledge has helped forward his writing career. Within the music circuit, Harris is a curator of pop music and all things mainstream. Although many feel pop is the art of selling out, Harris has learned that pop means you are making music a career in the most competitive field in the world.

Dave Hitchings

Web Developer, Writer
Dave Hitchings

At the University of Hartford to study web design and development, Dave Hitchings has taken what he loves to do and made a career out of it. Developing and designing his own website, Mercury Studios, Dave has also aligned a blog of his own to coexist with his website. In his bloHG he would, among other things, review albums and shows which he had frequented. A lover of alternative, punk, pop and rock music (and an intermittent listener to rap-pop and ska), Dave’s taste in music has sometimes and irregularly been influenced by his English roots. Dave was born in England and now lives in America, he has also inhabited Australia during a study abroad semester there. Dave also plays acoustic guitar during any free time, and has spent his working hours with interactive ad agencies like R/GA, as well as on smaller client driven projects. The Webster Star is probably his most ambitious solo project to date.

Paige Patunas

Writer
Paige Patunas

Paige Patunas fell in love with writing at a young age and ever since she knew her life would take her somewhere that writing was involved. This has brought her to the University of Hartford in pursuit of degree in journalism. She has taken the opportunity to take as many diverse writing classes as possible, from journalism, to analytical, to creative writing in hope of perfecting the skill she wishes to make her career. Paige was also introduced to music at a very young age when her parents would play the music of the Beatles and Led Zeppelin before she could walk. She has been attending concerts ever since. Growing up in New Jersey, she was always immersed in the music world, attending local shows and befriending local artists. Her passion for all kinds of music grew and after being introduced to her school’s newspaper her sophomore year of high school she finally knew that she wanted to write about music. Her aim is to teach as many people about music that her time and efforts will allow. Music has been a huge part of her life and she wants to make it a part of others through her writing. The Webster Star is her first real experience writing in the music world and will hopefully be a great push in the right direction.

Jordan Kassery

Photographer
Jordan Kassery

Jordan attended Gibbs College where she earned an Associate’s Degree in Graphic Design. Jordan then went on to complete training in computers, where she currently works. Jordan always had an interest in photography, but when she started working in a photo lab in 2002 the interest became more than just a hobby. Jordan became interested in photography several years ago. She has furthered this interest with some professional training, but mostly through experience, both her own and others. Jordan started concert photography as a hobby back in 2000, shooting both promo shots and live concerts. She found concert photography to be a great subject to capture because she liked being able to capture all the energy and emotion that the musicians put into their work. Jordan currently shoots with a Sony alpha a700 camera, using a DT 16-105mm f/3.5-5.6 wide range zoom and a 75-300mm f/4.5-5.6 telephoto zoom lens.

Chazz L. Camino

Writer
Chazz L. Camino

Born with music coursing through his veins, Chazz L. Camino is the textbook definition of audiophile. A graduate of Central Connecticut State University, where Mr. Camino earned a degree in History. Although a subject second in his heart only to music, Mr. Camino should have actually been awarded an honorary degree in marketing and radio broadcast for his work with WFCS 107.7 FM, where he was twice General Manager, once Metal Director and often times host of “The Devil’s Whorehouse” - a weekly exploration into all things heavy. His work with WFCS led him to a position in the marketing/promotions department with Relapse Records allowing him to work hand in hand with some of the best and brightest in the underground metal & hardcore scenes. After leaving Relapse to finish his degree at CCSU, Mr. Camino decided to take a long and restful break from the music industry in order to pursue other interests as well as procreate multiple times. He did, however continue to remain active in the local music scene, including a stint as vocalist for the now defunct grind band Black Stool. Mr. Camino is proud to be a part of The Webster Star Team and can’t wait to receive his honorary decoder ring.
